Prudential Committee meetings are conducted in compliance with the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law (M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Sections 18-25).

For meetings of the Prudential Committee, there shall be a reasonable period of time for public comment prior to the Committee commencing its discussions and deliberations.  The public does not participate in Committee discussions and/or deliberations.

“No person shall address a meeting of a public body without permission of the chair; and all persons shall, at the request of the chair, be silent.  No person shall disrupt the proceedings of a meeting of a public body.  If after clear warning from the chair a person continues to disrupt the proceedings, the chair may order the person to withdraw from the meeting; and if the person does not withdraw, the chair may authorize a constable or other officer to remove the person from the meeting.”                                                                             M.G.L. NOTICE:  NOMINATION PAPERS AVAILABLE

Nomination papers are available on Tuesdays through Thursdays between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM at the Cotuit Fire District’s Treasurer’s Office in the fire station (508-420-3000).*  Each candidate needs signatures of 25 registered voters residing in the Cotuit Fire District.  The following positions are up for election.

1 Member of the Prudential Committee                                             3 Year Term

1 Member of the Board of Water Commissioners                              3 Year Term

1 Member of the Board of Fire Commissioners                                 3 Year Term

Nomination papers must be presented to the Town of Barnstable Registrar of Voters (Town Clerk) no later than 4:00 PM on April 10, 2014; and must be presented to the District Clerk by 3:00 PM, April 24, 2014.

Citizen Petitions for articles to be placed in the warrant need 10 certified signatures of registered voters in the District and must be presented to the District Clerk prior to the closing of the warrant on April 28, 2014.

The election will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, at Freedom Hall, 976 Main Street, Cotuit.  The Annual District Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at 7:30 PM, in Freedom Hall.

*The Office will be closed on March 6, 2014.
